no matter what happens I bet the sale is effectively over within 30 minutes like 2012........hope I'm wrong.

I'll be there looking for some supplies so I hope the commercial guys turn up.

Cheers
Paul

The change in date / weekend will catch a lot of people out too, I suspect...

I'll be there, as I live just down the street, even though last year was disappointing. Only looking, of course ;)

The Melbourne Sale was much better this year than in 2012. There seemed to be more sellers, but the number of buyers seemed to be a bit down...probably because of Warragal being on the same day.

Plenty of finches....particularly those under $100/pair. Most finches seemed to sell well, except for Gouldians and cubans....I don't know why sellers persist in taking Gouldians to sales at this time of the year. The canary's also seemed to struggle...probably due to the time of the year again. As per usual the parrots seemed to struggle....there were some beautiful ring necks and grass parrat mutations....most seemed to go home with the sellers.

It's pleasing to see the continued increase in numbers in some of the old fashion birds....cut throats, nunns, etc...birds that seemed to be non-existant at Victorian sales 2-3 years ago.

The sale was well organised this year....all birds were covered shortly after being benched and covers only came off about 15 minutes before the sale....I'm glad to see this as it makes it fair for all potential buyers.

The sale was still going strong 1.5 hours into the sale and only really started to slow right down at 1PM....much better than last year when most birds were snatched up by 1 hour into the sale.

It was the first time in years I have seen officers from the DSE at a Victorian sale....and they didn't seem to pick anyone up on how they were selling the birds....well done to the organisers who were very strong on ensuring everyone made sure their birds had plenty of food and water in each cage....and I didn't see too many crappy/old display cages.

I had plenty of interest in the green seed. Hopefully those who took my number will place orders within the next 2 weeks and our 3rd shipment will go ahead.

Cheers
Paul

I enjoyed the sale, and seeing some of the different species that I hadn't seen in the flesh; particularly that gorgeous Pekin Robin cockbird! Very beautiful.
I ended up buying that silver pair I told you about, Paul!

I'm not sure who was selling it, or if it was sold- I left at about 11.40, and it was still there then. Lovely looking thing.

the pekin robin was being sold by the tall old "German" looking guy...I think he is actually Croatian....He did a presentation at the monthly meetings about 8-9 months ago...I'm sure his photo was on the monthly magazine the following month...he lives in Sunbury...but I cannot remember his name....he is at most Vic sales and always has gouldians. His wife has blondish hair....not very clear i know, but I could spot him out in a crowd, but don't know his name....He will be at the ballarat sale so I could point him out for you Marty.

Cheers
