Healthy Bird bird seed - what's happened to them too?!

As an alternative to Golden Cob, which seems to have vanished as a company, I looked up Healthy Bird. Their web site is now just a bunch of 404 pages! Gone! What's going on? Is business really that bad that all of our local seed suppliers are selling up or closing down?
Who's left?! Avigrain (yech), Marylands (questionable), Crest (no suppliers in populated areas), Elenbee (far away and low quality IME).
Sigh. Why is it always so hard to find well formulated, clean local seed? It always seems to be a struggle. No soon as I settle on a decent brand something goes wrong and I have to start all over again.
Grumble

Finchy,
I get my finch mix from JM Produce, Lot 7 Erskine Park Road, Erskine Park. 20 kilo bag for around $20. I use for normal feeding and soak/sprouted seed. Does the trick for me. Was recommended to me by a fellow forumite. You can't miss the place, big seed silos and all.
Good luck
Matcho.

Finchy,do you buy your seed in bulk?As Matcho said,if he is happy with that seed,i would buy 5 bags and store it in a large wheely bin with a bin linner.Thats 100kg of seed that can last for many months before you need to buy more.I wouldn't worry about freshness, the seed is probably a year old or more anyway and it will stay viable for a long time after that.
IMO,bulk is the way to go and you only have to worry about it when you are getting near the the bottom of the bin. Craig

Has anyone else apart from Finchy had a problem with Avigrain? I was always happy with the product (avigrain blue).
Finchy, perhaps your supplier wasn't going through enough product and had been sitting on the shelf for a long period of time or hadn't been storing it well. Or perhaps just a dud batch.
I now source my seed from Peter Slade from Quirindi either through bird sales or a local produce store he supplies.
Cheers Ian

I use Avigrain blue, the birds appear to like it...

I have two tonnes coming from maxiseeds next week. They also do mixes for different birds.I prefer to mix my own seed personally though. My purchase is individual seeds from him,so I can't say how good the mix is.Best buy is one ton,as freight is the same you pay for a pallet.get a group together and share the costs of freight.

Gomer,
2 tonnes?

Wow! 20 kgs last me about a month when the cages are full after breeding season. I couldn't carry that much unless I used the back entertainment area otherwise I would be single..... Hang on... I am now... partly because of the birds.

That's my excuse anyway!

I am personally only getting 750kgs I wanted 1000 kgs but then three other people wanted in.So I had to cut back on mine to accommodate them. There was two of us @ 1000 kgs each. The other bloke didnt really want the 1000 kgs anyway. So he got two others in.Surly theres enough of you in Sydney to get 1000 kgs Say 100 each.

Hi Gomer, what does the price come down to with a 2 tonne bulk purchase? With/without freight?
Cheers Ian

I dont have the pricing here, As my Father has it its being delivered there as I may not be home when it comes. Most seeds are about the $1 a kilo some less.a pallet to Melb $70 each. I would expect Syd about the same.I can get the exact pricing if you want it.
