terrific shots Gomer.

What camera and size lens did you use? I am going on the Gouldian count and need to get a new lens and dont know what to get. How close were you to the birds?

I used a canon 600d with a canon 100-400 mm lens. They were only about 5 to 6 metres away. These photos are how they were shot and not changed or magnified in any way.I was considering a sigma 100- 500 lens and only bought the canon lens, because the sigma was not available when I went to pick it up.Mind you the sigma would have been half the price of the canon.

Nice photos. Have you considered a 1.4 extender for your setup?

Beautiful little finch and great photos.

Seeing a flock like that brings back memories from about 40 years ago trapping some wild ones in our chook run when I was a kid.

Great shots!!
Good choice too - from all I see, the Sigma is not sharp at all at 500mm.
The 1.4x TC would disenable the autofocus on the 100-400mm, as all canon cameras (except the 1DIV, 1DX, and 5DIII) can only autofocus up to f5.6. Adding a 1.4X TC would make it f8
