Fledgling

We its finally happened. My first finch fledgling since I have been back in the game. And its a White-eared masked finch but its out a bit early. I think there is another one or two in there as well. Interestingly, they were only interested in the sprouted seed and dry seed mix (budgie mix). They consumed none of the frozen green seed, soft food or even seeding grasses that were offered. I have also put up some pics of my flights. As can be seen, the flights run full length (about 3m), however, as you enter via a safety entrance, each door between the flights, closes the birds in a shorter flight to create a temporary walkway. This gives me the flexibility to move through them quickly and the benefit of the birds being able to get to the sun and rain if they choose. The water bowls are in the front porch area and split water falls out of the aviary onto the ground outside.

Wow! Very tidy, well thought out setup. I presume you intend to breed something more exotic than maskeds (and did I spot plummies?) in that setup?

Congratulations on your first lot of young.Nice new setup you have got there. We masks always seem to breed over winter here.I also have a few nests out of them already. It makes it hard when you are wanting to shut everything down and a few birds are firing up.
