Hi All,
Just a quick question.
When is the Crimson's breading season (I'm in Sydney)? I believe that I have read something about Autumn but i would like to confirm with the group.
Regards.

i also have a 4week old chick out and 3 or 4 other prs sitting hopefully with young,the other prs are stuffing around building nests and pulling them apart and building else where.gomer wrote:I have a few 4 week fledgling nests out at the moment.I also get them in spring fledging.
I find they start breeding at around April/May,but their best breeding is in August/September and October where they bring out larger nests of 5 young. Craig

G'day AB,
In the wild from about xmas until late autumn early winter.
In the aviary much the same but they can be extended on both side of that by a considerable margin to the point that there is really only about 4 months where they wont.
I have been breeding since before xmas with the last batch just weaned and parents are sitting again - in Brisbane
Have fun, they are an endearing finch for the aviary.

Thanks People!
So it seems that I may have been on the right track about Autumn in the wild (possibly to do with the rains up north) and also as with many Aussie domesticated finches Crimsons, they are opportunistic in regards to breeding as long as the basics are met;
1) Good weather
2) Good food.
Just researching at this stage but Thanks very much.
Kind Regards
