I love the call the male emblema makes......sounds like a broken spring on a cartoon show! :lol:

There is nothing wrong with your painted preferring the floor it is really their usual practice as apart from Quail they spend more time on the floor than any other bird.
Just throw a bit of dry grass in one corner & they will come up when ready.

Thanks southy, either the parents or the hatchling had gathered feathers and bits of grass and that where the young one was most of the time. Noticed the cock bird was one the floor with the young one most of today. It has made it up a branch to the dizzying height of about 6 inches before it jumps back down!

Went in the aviary this morning and the baby emblema took off and kept going. It reached the top perch! :lol:
So just over a week on the floor, will have to remember that for next time, fingers crossed.

Its gorgeous, congratulations! I have an ancient emblema hen that practically jumps on your hand when you put green food in. They are a nice bird!
