Morning gentleman,,,,,,,,,
I am from America,,,,,,,,
I am on an "aviary building site,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
and many people from Australia say they don't have to deal with "vermin",,,,,,,,,,
Is this true ,or do you have the above vermin?
Thank you.
Roland

Hello Roland
The four legged vermin here is nowhere near what you have in your area.
Mice and more mice and sadly on occasion Rats but that's it.
No Burrowing or larger 4 legged ones except the normal house hold cat I guess.
Do you still breed those beautiful Pies

Yes we still breed red-billed and cissas,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
We have been having trouble with raccoons and possums lately have caught 5-1 in a couple of weeks
So you just have mice and rats ,can they be a big problem?
When you coming over again?

Where are you moving to ?. Here in QLD you have to worry about snakes, hawks, snakes, Antechinus, snakes, goannas, snakes, cats, snakes, rats and mice.
There's only one rule - 6 mm wire mesh.

Danny,
You forgot foxes, owls, geckoes, butcherbirds, the odd stray dog (especially if you keep galliformes) etc etc

Danny, I heard snakes are an issue in QLD - but glad to know you don't think so

Down here Currawongs are a Big problem too.

Not to mention DRAGONS

- seriously though only one rule as Danny has said is 4mm mesh and a sub-rule - rat walls to 600mm deep.

Trilobite,
That's not a lizard...
...I had an adult goanna climbing up my aviaries on the Sunshine Coast...now that would have scared the feathers off the poor birds inside, but they coped find and the goanna moved on to greener pastures- this time!

Nobody has mentioned foxes, but I guess once you have protected for all the critter listed above, the foxes can't get in.

I have a mate not far from my place who has had heaps of issues with foxes over the years. First they were just going for his chooks. They tried digging in and then they literally ripped through the chook mesh including through the roof. They've also ripped holes in half inch weldmesh on his finch aviary.
