Cherry finch advise

Hi all
I'm still new to this forum and little lost, but trying to get advice on cherry finches whose babies are "thrown" out of the nest at about the stage just when they start developing proper feathers. In the same cage I have grass finches (that breed fairly well), silver bills (breed a few times) and a female Cuban.
Do you have any ideas or can point me to someone who may be able to help.
Regards
Leslie Hoy

Hi Leslie,

Are you supplying any livefood or not ?

Have you seen any other birds interfering with there nest ?

And Cherry Finches are quite shy finches especially when nesting and don't like nest inspections.

Plumhead finches do just fine without live food.
a good seed mixture and rich softfood does the trick.

In my case they built their nests in tee tree quite high in the aviary, and like Henry points out, they don't like nest inspections/interference.

Young parents might need a practice runbefore they settle in and raise their young.

Exactly what do you mean by grassfinches? Longtails perhaps? If so, they are likely to camp in the nest of other species which would be enough to prompt an abandonment by the plumhead parents.
