My guess is bead chain is the beading door hanging stuff. It is that time of year again.

Bead chain is the same stuff that a lot of vertical blinds are strung together with, also the way some kitchen sink plugs are attached to the sink.

I think you can also buy this by the mtre off a large roll.

Not a solution, but I am currently reading Tim Low's "Where Song Began" and he goes into some detail about the effect of Miners aggression on other birds.
Makes for an interesting if disturbing read.
