We have a young PC pair about to start nesting - they have been going in and out of the nest box the last couple of days. No eggs so far.
Would putting a single scarlet male in with them cause problems? Saw two cheap ones on gumtree and thinking of getting one.
They are in a small aviary, I think 1.6 x 1 if I remember correctly. I have a feeling I know the answer but thought I would put it past people with more knowledge than me.
Thank you for any advice.

There are not many parrots or lorikeets that would share an aviary that small and breed with a lone male scarlet in with them,if you are that desperate to get him, house him in a seperate aviary and purchase a hen of his own.Scarlets also do well in budgie breeding cabinets if space is a problem. .

Do you mean they do well as in breeding, or can live in a breeding cabinet? I thought they needed more room.

I suspected that putting him in would disrupt the PCs. :-(

I have bred them in budgie breeding cabinet 1000Lx600hx450d without any problems.

Personally it is a non decision, why would you add pressure on a breeding pair of birds.
Are you a collector or a breeder.

I have a colony of scarlets and trust me breeding season they aint so sweet and nice . I also keep PCs and at the best of times can be nasty buggers .
My answer NO .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, you have confirmed what I suspected.
E Orix - we got the PC for pleasure when we gave up the finches. It is just so tempting to want to add to what we have. Roll on retirement and large planted aviaries with lots of birds... LOL!
