So excited to open my new Birds of Australia ( Pizzey & Knight 9th ed) when I got home from work yesterday. Now I have a whole year to plan where to go next year!

Just read this post, so decided to replace the over 20 year old Simpson and Day I have in the car, looks the goods. Not cheap, but what is these days?

I go twitching for 6 months every year and still run out of time.
The book"Where to finds birds in Australia" is still very relevant.

Awesome Nancy, pizzey is definitely the best of the guides IMO.

I admired yours, Julian! I find it helpful to someone who isn't familiar with the geography to plan where they need to travel based on which species they want to see. I can tell right now that my brother and I are going to have a fight- he wants to see eclectus and I'm mad over fairy wrens right now!

Case, I want to be you when I grow up! So lucky that you can devote the time. You are so fortunate to live in such an amazing place ; I was totally enchanted by it all!

Nancy, I don't live here.
Spending 6 months of the year in Oz birding and the other 6 months working hard to get the farm in New Zealand back into shape.

As for the wrens.
At the mo we are staying at our eldest son in Margaret River (about 3 hours South of Perth WA) don't have to go far for the wrens. Splendids in the garden as I write this.
And this morning caught the Red winged Fairy wren on camera. They refused to sit still yesterday and the day before.

Nice! Even if we wind up seeing the eclectus it looks like I may have a good shot at seeing the red backed & the lovely varieties- so all won't be lost!
