Just curious ,I went to buy some Zebra finchs from a bird store a couple of days ago and had to provide my name and Phone no ,when I asked why was told "it's a new reqirement for every bird we sell we must get your details for the RSPCA". I am very suspicious they may have been in trouble or something.
Has anyone heard of this??

From the NSW Animal Welfare Code of Practice, Animals in Pet Shops 2008
So the requirement isn't that new but perhaps isn't frequently policed and maybe your shop just had it's books inspected.(7.2) RECORD-KEEPING
7.2.1 Standards
7.2.1.1 Appropriate records must be kept for:
• The acquisition/breeding of animals, including the date of birth, date of acquisition and the name and address of the supplier/breeder of the animals.
• The sale of animals (except fish), including: the date of sale, and the name and contact details of the new owner.
