bought a bit of swamp grass - and pretty good stuff too. only drama no more left. anyway the diamonds are agro for nest material and i threw a bit on the floor. not too much as i don't want birds with young doing a runner

first off these couple of normal/fawn pied cocks

then the deal sweetener - landing on the perch my very first fawn cock/pied. didn't even know i had this bird as i required the fawn and pied factor in both. so now knowing its in there and has been there for quite some time i'm very close to breeding my very first fawn pied cock bird.
at the moment i have two of these possible combos with young in nest.

the illusive and two years of trying later - may just be in one of those nest

Nice work.
Every time you post there seems to be more pairs and more importantly more young! So just how many Diamonds have you got wildbill?

about a week back a rough count would have been 70 as i had months earlier 110. but it could be close to 90 as young are appearing on a daily basis

iaos

lol I wish I could get some but we have no breeding Diamonds left in NZ except for the odd old birds left around.

Please tell us you will sell some at the orange sale next year?

I am going this time!

Good work on the Diamonds.
I have found mine love the fresh November grass and it usually only takes 5 mins and nest renovations are well underway.

Hoping my pied pair will breed this year.

not sure if i will be attending the orange sale as i usually have pre-booked work on their sale day. on the plus side if you care for a walk i only live 200 metres from the venue - your welcome to take a look. my birds are not well know here as only only one other finch man in the city of orange has sighted them.
at the moment i'm pushed for room with new arrivals in the coming months - so i guess all young are for sale

There could be a rush of people visiting Orange with carry boxes and cash in hand after a statement like that. Good luck Wild Bill with your breeding and to those who fancy Diamonds in the area, sounds like now is the time to buy and learn from this setup.
