Plastic Bird Rings

I get all my rings from Allan Tully who imports the Hughes rings from the UK.
Some time ago I asked him if he could supply extra small plastic split rings and he has just sent me
some AA size(from memory) to try out.
These are the smallest split plastic rings that are suitable for O'Breasts, Ruddies, St Helenas and Softbills such as Chats, in fact
any bird that has very thin legs. They will replace those tiny metal winged rings that can hang up a bird.
Recently I purchased some birds and 2 had rings that didn't fit properly and in fact they were removed simply by pulling
them over the foot. Rings that are too big can cause so much damage as they are far more likely to get caught up in
the brush or a twig etc.
It would be better without using rings but sadly there is no other way of quick ID

A C Huges also have a small aluminium split ring.I think its the same size aaa.I use three different sizes on my finches. As one size DOESNT fit all in any brand.Good bloke good rings.

One size does not fit all.

The show circuit is strong in Europe and people band their birds with closed rings varying from 2.0 to 14 mm. Wrong size banding may, and often does, lead to disqualification.
Endemic species must be ringed with closed rings full stop! ringed with the wrong closed ring or not ringed at all will not only occur a hefty fine but also confiscation of the birds.
