I have young Cubans trying to build their first nest, unfortunately they are not very good at it, they either build it on part of the frame where it just falls off when they are nearly finished or the are building it on the wire where it hlds but is o th side where the kids play etc so they have no piece, is there any way I can encourage them to build in a sensible spot? or will they use a box if we put one in? There are cane ones in there that they aren't interested in. for the this morning there was an egg on the floor.. :chicken:

Mine have always gone for round receptacles about 15/18cm diametre. Like the old rat ball, and the old round plastic cutaway light fitting, both garage sale jobs. A similar size box may do the trick.

thanks, job done, I did a cylander type thing of manuka up the wall and had a spare canary nest so thought I would put that amongst it, it gave them the hint thy needed and they have been busily 'renovating' ever since
