I see Johnsbirds of Epping have cancelled bird selling until the hot weather is over. I wonder how many other dealers are doing the same?

If it's over 30 degrees C I think it is best for all concerned.

Our local bird/pet shop has a large, permanent, prominent sign, that says "if the temp is over 35 we will not catch/sell birds".
Some are good guys as far as concern for the birds, and many breeders/keepers of birds make people wait till the weather is reasonable.
As the weather here is currently under 35. Yesterday mum and I did some bird swapping. Now I just hope this pair of possible split blues (Gouldians) who look in great nic, get their mojo together and reproduce. :soppy: Blues of course. :whoohoo:

Victoria has a Code of Practice for Bird Sales.

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~vac/Bird%20S ... of%20P.htm

It says Bird Sales "are to be deferred or cancelled if the ambient dry‑bulb temperature is predicted to reach 32 degrees Celsius or above on the day of the sale."

Further: "The predicted temperature to be used will be the regional temperature as advertised on the A.B.C. evening television news on the day before the sale. All Bird Sale advertising should warn members of the public of this condition."

This was a VAC initiative. Just thought I'd give our interstate brethren fair warning if you are coming down south during a heat wave :)

All of the shops near me abide by this rule.

I know! I've had people contact me wanting to pick up birds during the heatwave! They're crazy if they think I'm going to catch birds in 45 degree weather!
