I had a few young diamonds fledge this week I noticed the rump of one of the young was different to the normal red ,it was more pink to orange.I will see what it's like when it gets older. The parents are normal coloured birds.
Has any one else seen this before?

May just be the camera, but the tail looks more of a chocolate than the black of its' sibling.

Nice one. Hopefully you can get them established.
Are the parents related to any of mine by any chance?

Like other animals, their young won't necessarily look like the parents. For example, if an all black cat and a all white cat have babies, they probably won't be all black or all white or black and white. There might be tabby cats. So yeah, there's always a possibility that the young will look different from the parents.

As this was four years ago, it would be interesting to hear what the young turned out to be. And any creatures can only produce young that look different to them if they are carrying recessive genes for something. e.g. brunette parents producing a blonde child (probably had blonde grandie on each side)
