Hi all!
http://www.abc.net.au/local/photos/2014 ... 940293.htm
This is me right now...Me my family, home and animals are currently safe. Spent the arvo battening down and trying to further protect my aviaries. One aviary I have had to empty and bring the occupants inside as flooding from underneath I couldn't control:( So far so good... But we are on alert for another 24 hours at least with 200+ mls of rain possible
In the 11 years I've been here in Kununurra I've never seen anything like this!!!
I'm thankful for my Cruiser as I drove around in 1 meter deep water to get essentials and pick up my daughter from school. Many though have their homes flooded in the lower lying areas and directly in the town centre.
I'll try and get up some more pics .

Have seen your pictures hope all is good for you. The water laying around and the Ivanhoe crossing are amazing having only seen the area in the dry.

Hi KB,hope all are safe,it's a bit unbelievable from when i was there in September last year, dry as chips around Wyndam with the finches accessing any water they could.
I can see a finch population explosion after all that has subsided and a feral population of guppies

Hope you manage to keep your heads above water.
Certainly very different to when I was up there for the gouldian count. And more rain on the way !!
The dude in the canoe made the West Australian, anyone you know KB ?
Far north is certainly a land of extremes
Keep safe
Cheers

With all my travel around Australia I have often been told that I should experience at least one wet. Maybe this year should have been a good year for me.
I see that Kununurra had 358.8 mm of rain for January 2014 and 395.2 mm thus far this month. The highest rainfall to date was 163.8 mm on the 8/2/14.
NZ has a different soil structure and it is not unheard of to get 300 mm in one day here. By next day it has disappeared, no ponding as we - where i live- sit on 12 meters deep volcanic ash.
No kayaks through the streets and no Youtube footage here.
Hope you and your birds are safe.
Sarah Pryke posted that it should be a bumper year for the birds after the wet.
cheers, Case

What we need is a big pipe to bring all that water down here!

When he was in politics, Ernie Bridge propossed a great big pipe from the north of WA to the south of WA, and for a while it was considered a jolly good idea. But then the cost freaked out a few people and the idea got shelved.
