I have a fair crop of freshly grown millets and pannicum and have heard it can be frozen on the stalk for later use. Can anyone tell me if this is true and if it has any ill effects on the birds? I also wondered if it is as simple as freezing fresh food or are there some tricks to it or it's later use?

There are no tricks to that I know of. I just cut it to the desired length, line them up and stuff them into freezer bags. My finches get it frozen, but that doesn't slow them down much.

When feeding grown at home seed heads from a finch mix , its best to harvest at the milk seed stage .
From what I've read it is up to 400 % higher in nutritional content than if allowed to ripen on the stalk .
Freezing it is no issue and the birds will relish it ... I know my lot go crazy for the stuff .
