Red Bellied Star?

Hi,

I think I have seen these birds discussed before. I have had a friend hold onto his Stars for me for some time now and I picked them up from him just yesterday.
I have 2 young pairs of Stars that display a red suffusion on the belly under the breast and under the tail of the Cocks. And I have two young pairs where the cock has some red feathers that are creeping below the normal mask line under the chin. These are both long term projects but I am glad to have them now.
The bird pictured is the father of the strain and is 4 years old and the colour has never moulted out. Time will tell while they are under my care. I hope to pair them up for the spring season later in the year.

Let me know what you think (pictures are a bit poor).

Kind Regards

Paul

Interesting project. Good luck with them. FYI my stars are just starting to nest now so why wait?

Thanks Gents,

It's first in best dressed and my Bengalese projects are in their first round of breeding since moving house. Since real estate is a premium they will have to wait until this first round is over and then I'll give the pairs a good austerity period together before spring. I'm going to attempt to breed them in the large breeder cages (no other option at present). So I think they will need the time to be comfortable in the space.

Cheers.

Pinched this pic off a friend of mine in The Netherlands.

Could not ask him for permission due to the time difference but am sure it is sweet. What are friends for?

Hi folks, i've noticed a couple of my star cocks in my holding cage have this red showing through on their belly. Worth hanging onto/pursuing do you think?
