might as well get this out in the open now as it always seems to come up in forums.
does anyone feed pellets only to their birds and if so why?
mine get dry seed, green seed, fresh greens and live food. no pellets.

With live foods i feed them mealworms now and then as a treat for them but most of the time its seed

My cockatiels inside get pellets rather than seed - but it is really to minimise the mess rather than any other reason.
My finches have seed, egg and soft food and green seeds when I can. The waxbills get mealworms but have bred without them also.

how much difference did you notice when the young fledged. between thoise who had livefood to those who did not.
I have found that young waxbills who have been fed livefood while in the nest seem to fledge as a much healthier bird and also seem to have a lot more feathers on them than those who have not had livefood available.

I actually usually do give livefood and agree the results are better - the current baby looks as good as those fed livefood but took much longer to fledge ( around a week longer) and there is only one ( but we were away on holidays and they werent meant to have babies! )

well no luck with gouldians eating crumbles,canaries no problem.sprouted seed all birds love those.

mine get seed seeding grasses livefood. i dont use pellets at all

I use seed and all of the other things mentioned in the above posts. Dont use pellets, although the canaries would probably eat them, they are always the first to the food bowl regardless of what is in it.

Seed, cuttlefish, green seed and the ever present fruit fly trap.
And when I have finches with young add any other live food I can get my hands on at the time.

And yes waxbills do seem to love the live food, and do better with it

I feel the same as everyone else, they are born with a beak to crack seeds and retrieve the food from inside, my finches don't get any crumbles and prefere to keep it diet natural
