This bird shown below, I have had for a couple of months.
I had a post with this bird regarding its mutation status, of which I
was told it's probably a SF RH Euro Yellow split for Aus Yellow.
For this to be, it has to be a cock, and to me it definitely looks like a cockbird.
Anyway paired it to a RH PB Euro Yellow hen.
Birds seemed healthy, active but not much happening in regards to nesting.
This morning, this bird looked quite ill, so I caged it up and put it into a heated room,
and hoped for the best.
2 hours later, the bird is fine, and there's an egg on the bottom of the cage !

Are you sure the egg wasn't laid on April 1st?

If the egg is fertile we won't need pairs anymore ,garyh

As i am new i have no idea bout sex linked colours, but i assume an egg is a more reliable indicator as to the sex of a bird?

Tiaris is right, must be a late April fools day joke. Or have I missed something?

No guys I am serious.
This bird doesn't sing, has shown no interest in the
hen that it was 'paired' with.
It can't be an extremely bright coloured hen ?
Maybe I'll be keeping it just for looks !

Well if it is a hen its a beauty ( maybe its a Gynandromorph?)....I would try breed it with another cock bird...you may start a new line of really brightly coloured hens..

As we can only see the left side of the bird a pic of the other side might highlight a difference. Pardon the expression, but a "full frontal" picture of the bird should show if the bird is a Gynandromorph.
I wonder if its always one particular side showing the male effects in these gynandromorphic birds? Ive noted quire a few showing the left side as the male side.
