Hi,

Just need a bit of advice when going on holidays, is it best to get a neighbour to feed & change Finches water in aviary. Is their some good equipment out there that I could use so it does not need to be done daily. What do other do, with birds while away, I want them to be cared for but not stressed out by someone they do not knoe & does not know much about birds feeding them. Any advice is helpful. Thanking You :worry: :?

I use multiple Seed hoppers (mason jar type) in case one clogs up.....I use glass guinea pig drinkers (usually 3 is enough in my aviaries..including hot days for a week) and I have a neighbour comes over occasionly just to check.....

I have used drinkers that have a 10 litre bottle that flows into a bowl, the 10 litre water bottles are the same type you see in office water drinking stations. Got that set up at the local feed store. Great in the summer as I freeze the water and it gives a cooling effect as well as available cool water throughout the day without disturbing the birds to replace warmed up water.

I also used chicken drinkers I think they call them. Found a pic on the net of something similar.

As pilot said a few stations for both food and water lessens any risk, but its still a good idea to get someone you trust to check the birds every couple of days.

I have reciprocal holiday arrangement with another local bird breeder. When they go away I look after their parrots with exactly the same feeding routine that they use. When we go away they do my exact feeding routine for me with my birds. Works great for both of us & there's no cutting corners with what our birds receive.
