I delivered yesterday a wild caught Pied Sparrow & and was asked how much $$. My answer was FREE - as I have had zero to do with it's breeding - health & type. I am very comfortable with not asking for $$. Just wondering if it was not a Sparrow would that change things ?????

Very interesting comment and very kind of you, i'm sure the recipient will be blown away when i give it to him as i was when i received it.The bird has plenty of white on it especially the whole head and a bone coloured bill, infact i thought it was a blue/lizard canary when i first saw it.
Well i have given away many WB crimsons that have not been up to my standard, these birds are useless to my breeding program as the cocks bellies have to be snow white so yes it's not the $$ that i am chasing but more to improve the quality of my birds.
Cheers and thanks on behalf of Wagga. Craig
Forgot to mention,if it were not for this forum things like this would never happen and breeders of certain unusual birds would never know that a certain bird is out there, communication by private message is a real advantage here that is absolutely brilliant. It happen with my breeding program and now with another and heavens knows how many more have been helped out. Well Done AFF

It is hard to put a monetary value on such a bird.
As Craig just mentioned your kindness and generousity is what will be remember and how can you put a price on that?'
Thanks to both of you guys, RIP64 and Craig.

This Pied Hen was definetly a very nice looking young bird - will be great to see some pied offspring produced - as Craig52 said she looked a bit blue/Lizard canary ???

can you post a pic pls? I remember as a kid, the population of sparrows was massive compared to these days. It wasn't unusual to see sparrows with white feathers.

I think the sparrow would be very happy to be given away then the other alternative depending on what variety it was.

So true, Gomer. This hen will be given the 'good life' compared to others.
eg. A good friend in Wagga who was breeding sparrows, pied hen with normal cockbird, in his large freeflight had to catch and destroy the majority of the sparrows due to a possible hybridization with his Song Sparrow's.
..What a waste you might say! Will depend if you think that by feeding them is keeping a feral species alive or the survival of the fittest - evolution.
