Thanks Arthur. Just a thought as I skim Arthur's link, what are the differences between Cape York and PNG birds? Maybe this explains some of the differences Craig is experiencing.arthur wrote:http://www.environment.gov.au/cgi-bin/s ... n_id=64443

The recovery plan does not seem to see the avicultural "market" as a threat, as I read it. No mention seems to be made of swamping of the gene pool with bb genes as with the black-eared miner and the yellow-eared.

Nor should it . . because it certainly is notUraeginthus wrote:The recovery plan does not seem to see the avicultural "market" as a threat.
But that hasn't stopped others in the past from 'throwing stones'
And while there is no threat seen; there is no suggestion that we may be of value as part of any 'recovery plan'
And . . it may be just my thin skin . . they don't seem overly keen to use avicultural data as scientific 'data', though some acknowledgement is given

The pics are on the way and as i perused the photos the birds look even worse than just looking at them in the aviary and i am quite sure it is lack of D3 or over loading them with vitamins/minerals and Amino acids if that is possible?Uraeginthus wrote:The recovery plan does not seem to see the avicultural "market" as a threat, as I read it. Thanks Arther,i have read all those sites on WB's but they are out dated, 90's and early to mid 2000's and a lot can happen in 10 years regarding the BB invasion.
Cheers Craig

thanks for sharing your pics craig52.
also happy to share some uv rays if you wanted to winter some up tamworth way....
hopefully spring/warmth/greenseed etc will help clear them up.
power to you for specialising in a species....not like us "stamp collectors".

Hmm almost look like 2 different mutations don't they. It's like they have a black circle round the white belly. Maybe you have a new mutation? Time will tell.

So you can see my dilemna, all those birds are from those two cocks shown,i should have taken pics of the young they had last year with the same hens which were held in an aviary with direct sunshine. Those birds are snow white on the belly and for some strange reason haven't bred but have attempted to breed this year but in saying that, they are only 12 months old.
Lack of D3 seems to be the answer as there is also black in the crimson of those birds so looks like another aviary has to be built for them to access direct sunshine or sacrifice two breeding aviaries and have only six prs.
Question for Myzo,I use soluminavit from All Farm in Hastings Vic and it contains 200,000 IU of D3 as well as all essential vitamins and minerals and amino acids,it is sprinkled on their soaked/sprouted seed twice a week.Am i using enough or is it possible that i could be over dosing and it is working in reverse to produce that grey/black.
If i can't remedy this in the next twelve months there will be some cheap WB's for sale but i would prefer the whole lot went to one person. Craig

Hi Craig, sounds like you need to get a couple of pairs out on breeding loan to free up a bit of space.
The birds and your success are a credit to you. Keep persisting... With a bit of sunshine I reckon they'll come good.
Good luck
Cheers Ian
