Description:
Adult – Cock Slender build. Head,face and neck greyish olive shading to olive green on back and wings to greeninsh gold on the lower rump and upper tail coverts. Tail is black. Pale yellow or yellowish white chin. Blending with a yellowish grey breast. Centre of lower breast and belly are bright yellow. Under tail coverts golden yellow. Sides of lower breast and flanks have rich barring of white and greenish black. Bill is dark red/crimson. Reddish brown eyes. Legs and feet are greyish brown. Length 100mm (10cm).
Adult - Hen All areas are duller than the cock. Breast is greyer, belly a paler yellow, bars on sides are lighter & less contrasting.
Juveniles – Dull greyish brown above with greenish yellow tinge to wings and upper tail coverts. Underside is various shades of buff. The bill is black at first.

Hybrid Risks:
Should avoid housing with Orange -Breasted Waxbills and Red Avadavats.
