Description:
Adult – Cock The head and nape are fawn with black zigzagging scales.A red band runs across throat and cheeks.Breast are light brown,with an irregular zigzag pattern.Upper belly brown,lower belly white.Wings are brown with dark bands.Rump and uppertail coverts are a dull brown.Tail Is black.Eyes are brown,bill horn-coloured,legs flesh.Average Length of 120mm.Average weight of 17.5 grams

Adult - Hen The female does not have the red band across the throat.The brown part on the belly Is also absent.The pattern of bands is more pronounced in the female.Also has a duller overall look.Average length of 120mm.Average weight of 16.5 grams.

Juveniles – Juveniles are seen to be similar size and appearance of parents within couple of weeks.Males have Red Throat band,but paler and less distinguished.Low amount of colour on breast .Overall colour paler with less markings.Leave nest with little down too.


Hybrid Risks:
Should avoid housing with Red Headed(Aberdeen) Finches
