This year i have weaned a number of green singer chicks, after weaning i have found that the birds tend to lose condition quickly and begin dropping their wings, and fluffing themselves up, they are currently kept and bred in an insulated bird room, the birds are not weaned until at least 5weeks of age, which is the specified time period by most articles and breeders, i have lost 2 chicks so far, and the other two currently look very unhappy, I'm unsure of what could be wrong with them, as they are getting plenty of greens, oily seeds, etc. I spoke to another breeder in my area who says they have never lost a bird after weaning, i have not had any problems with weaning other birds, only the singers, so I'm currently at my wits end with what i can do to help the poor little buggers. Any help would be immensely appreciated, thanks in advanced

Havent had anything to do with singers. But sometimes if a type of bird that usually is treated in a particular way is not working that way, an extended weaning time can fix the problem. So maybe try that. Good luck.

Yeah i might try this next time as the hen has gone down on 3 eggs again, so hope i get some strong healthy chicks this time. i originally got this pair from a pet shop, so they could possibly be related too, next year i will pair her up with a different cock and see how they go.finchbreeder wrote:Havent had anything to do with singers.
