I have just purchased my first pair of blue faced parrot finches from the local pet shop for my first aviary since a young kid. I am keen to get some emblema's as well. Will they be ok in the same aviary together,and what nesting arrangements are best for each breed.

They will get along fine.

Emblema finches like a small cane beehive style nest. Parrotfinches will generally nest anywhere, but small boxes are preferred by my birds.

Both species are very adaptable to different nest sites. Best to provide a range of options for them including brush & receptacles & let them choose what's best.

Ive had BPPF and Emblema together, no problems, the BPPF cock bird is too busy chasing the hen to worry about Emblema and the Emblema are just too laid back to worry about anything!
BFPF preferred a box tightly packed with as much nesting material as they could get in there. Emblema made nests of their own and also in baskets

I have a pr of BFPF and a pr of Emblema with another 8 prs of (Owl, Ruddy, Orange Breasted, Plum head, Black Heart, Owl, Gouldian and Cordon). No issues so far (only been 4 weeks) both are happily ignoring each other other than when they all go for the communial bath.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a box style nest and cane basket style do I need to put some nesting material in the bottom to start with. I'm thinking of some wood shavings to bulk up the bottom or would some coconut fibre be good.

Put a generous amount of nesting materials arround the avairy so they can collect it and build their own. Don;t want to encourage lazy nest building by starting their nests for them.
And don;t forget the charcol.

If you do use coconut fibre, cut it into short lengths as it has been known to wrap around legs.
