Up here for a couple of days with a mate checking out his cane farm on the Burdekin river. Early this morning driving around the fields I saw heaps of chestnut breasts, saw a small group of Crimson Finches in the long grass beside the river. Have never seen them in the wild before. Took lots of photos with my phone but all you can see is grass. There is a pair of Bush Stone Curlews nesting about 60 metres from the shed we are camped in. I thought they only came from plains country. Think I have seen quite a few Metallic Starling as well.

Ended up seeing quite a few more Crimson Finches at another farm on the Haughton River, these were all in corn paddocks. Went up to Mossman for a mates 40th and saw plenty of Sunbirds. Beautiful little birds. Are they in aviculture much? Also saw and heard a few fig parrots.
