A few weeks ago, I discovered one of my Orange Breasted's stuck inside a cane nest, and it couldn't get out because one of its legs was bound by fine fibres of the grey nest mat. I had to cut her out. A week or so later, i noticed that she wasn't using said leg. I caught her up and discovered the finest of fine strands constricting her leg , one actually embedded IN her leg - obviously from where she had been stuck in the nest. After carefully cutting the strands off ( out of ) her leg, it bled a little but she survived. Today, she is standing on her leg, but it looks swollen up where it was constricted ( in hindsight, I'm thinking I should have left the fibres there to cleanly cut that part of her leg off........because NOW I'm concerned about infection ). MY QUESTION IS - should I put antibiotics ( Oxymav ) in the drinking water as a precaution ? Only reason I ask is, there is one more Orange Breasted plus an owl finch in the same cage. It won't hurt THEM if I do, will it ?? TIA.

I would bow to veterinary advice but I think a one week course would be wise even if the bird looks well. Secondary infections can quickly take hold in these circumstances. The antibiotic should not harm your other birds
