Gee Gary,if you look on top of one of those nest boxes you will see a double bar and there is probably other finches in there as well that would use those boxes,I'm sure Shane would know canaries don't use nest boxes. Craig

Yup. It's a mixed collection. There are cup nests in there, but the canaries have opted to build their own nest in a piece of c-section that's holding up the shelf.

So they're a cross breed of some description? Interesting.

Did you get them from a breeder or dealer?

One or two of your birds seems to stand quite upright, I know Ive seen pictures of a certain type/named canary where all the birds stand in this way and show the upper part of the leg but I cant think of it.
Hopefully Red will look at the pics and be able to help.
Nice birds and I love the C channel nest!

They may be a crossbreed, but they are not hybrids.

All breeds of canary are of the one species just as dogs, cats, horses sheep are of theirs.

"Mules" are Goldfinch x canary hybrids which are sterile.

Just thought I'd throw that in for the newer people here :)

Given that the red factor canary was developed from the red Siskin I'm assuming that the young from a crossing of a canary with a red Siskin would be fertile? Any thoughts?
