hi for about the last 5 yrs I have put 4pr of rhpb with 4prof rhwb with 4pr of yhpb with 4pr of yhwb. all in the same aviary. picking the best each year. this year I have bhpb and bhwb young from this aviary. I thought the red was dominant or are they thrown back from the yellows? thanks john

John this sounds confusing. You're asking how you got the black heads right?

Hi John ,in the birds you have been breeding over the years,there were birds split to bh,what birds who knows but some have come together and the genes have clicked and hence bh,at the moment everybody is after bh so it might be a bonus gatyh

What colour beak tip do they have ? , if red tip you have a split to black head cock in the group, if yellow tip beak they are genetically yellow heads that don't have a red gene so cant express the yellow colour.

The fathers of the BH progeny (presumably young hens) are split to BH. BH is sex-linked recessive in inheritence so only males can be split to BH. Split BH males can occur in both RH and YH phenotype birds. If they are bred in multi-pair colonies the identification of the split male parents will be very difficult unless you know which birds sired which progeny.
