Zebra Finch Song Breeds?

Hello,

I was wondering if zebra finches have any song breeds or if anyone has attempted to manipulate their song. I learnt that hey can even mimick the song of their brothers and so it got me wondering if anyone isolates certain notes or more complex notes for these little ones.

Their squeaky call is nice, but I'd want to change it up a bit for fun.

Me either . .

Heard about a shop assistant at local pet store who tried passing Zebbies over the barcode scanner for a bit of fun

My wife's opinion of people like that . . "They need more work to do!"

So no one has ever tried to breed Zebs with a new song? That's kinda weird to me. I'd expect someone out there to try. In Japan, one of the greatest countries on earth ! - they bred roosters to have different notes... What about zebs? There has to be someone out there who did it!

I breed 200 Zebras in 6 months and all cock birds songs would be the same I don't think it changes not that I have gone into it. But all sound the same to me.

Read up on it. Wild zebs are producing complex notes. They sound the same to you because their notes are few and simple and so we cannot differentiate them, however the hens can.

I was reading that most birds learn the song from their dad, however in instances where the dead dies or disappears somehow, the elder brother teaches the younger brother the song. So there is a capability for learning, it's simpy a matter of fine tuning the notes.

It reminds me of an Arab breeder who bred Russian Canaries. He taught his Russians how to sing based off a flute and it's the most amazing song I ever heard from a bird. Now, I take it zebs can't do that, but nothing should stop a well rounded breeder from tinkering with something beside color. This is where human intervention gets really interesting as we have the God given capability to manipulate animals and create new breeds.

P.S. here is the canary russian singer in case anyone was wondering about it:

If you are that keen tf breed a zeb, hand raise it and play it canary and goldfinch cds all day.

By your reasoning in 6 months time we should hear the first singing zeb.

If it could be bred for song it would have been done by now.

You're misunderstanding me. I'm simply speaking of manipulating the existing notes within the capacity of the zebra finch.
