Must have very confused judges then! I've seen Gouldians that look more like ruddies than this guy :D (just joking of course, but yeah, it's a star-crimmie hybrid pretty sure)

Star/Ruddy cross I reckon. They are the only hybrid which I have accidently bred & it occurred on 3 occasions each years apart.

Wow I would not of thought that was genetically possible being that Ruddy is a waxbill.... but like always you learn something new everyday...

By the stoutness of the beak in Jay's avatar, I would rule out Blood finch as a parent

And if the owner genuinely believes that it is a Ruddy, I would rule in Ruddy as a parent

But any judge who did not 'wrong-class' the bird should have his ticket revoked

Even if it could somehow scrape into 'Ruddy section' it could never be awarded a place, no matter what standard was applied, as it looks nothing like a Ruddy

If enough judges 'wrong-classed' the bird, surely the owner would not continue to exhibit it

But if he does, perhaps someone should have the intestinal fortitude to tell him to go away and take his bird with him :o
