Hello all, I reside on Bribie Island just north of Brisbane and have been retired here for 12 years, at my house I have a resident population of wild double bar finches that visit on a regular basis, I have had small aviaries all my life so decided to build one here rather than keep going with cages, I have a few pairs of gouldian and stars and would appreciate any advice as to what type of shrubs and or vines would be suitable for stars to nest in as this is my first experience with them, thank you for the opportunity to join this forum and look forward to further topics.

All the best from redluom

Hi Redluom
Welcome to the forum.
In regards to the question of stars, in my experience they prefer to build their own nests in brush. Seeing you live on Bribie Island you should have access to Ti Tree (Melaleuca). I prefer the one with fine needle like leaves. Just put clumps of brush in and they should be ok. Plenty of greens and seeding grasses and some live food won't go astray. One word of warning though......no fingers in nests, they don't take well to nest inspections.
Good luck
Matcho.

Thank you all for the welcome and good wishes and in particular to matcho for that sound advice, I have in the past bred show budgerigars with some some finch experience so hope to learn something here. Cheers redluom
