Other Interests

We are all bought together by this site as we share the love of bird keeping. It would be interesting to see how vast all of our other interests are outside of bird keeping. I personally am a mad keen fisherman (in which I probably spent too many hours out in the boat) and very family orientated to a point in where we nearly have our parents and sisters together every weekend for bbqs ect. I sold my boat in 2014 as I had also been doing game fishing comps and outside fishing in mates boats which were much larger than mine. As game fishing is seasonal this has given me more opportunities to spend time doing my second main passion, building. At home in 2014 I have installed more aviaries and currently building the mother of bbq areas which I should have finished in the next month or so the family can meet and eat.

Outside of Birds my other Interests are Speedway. I raced from 2000 to 2009 below is my White Car. I don't race anymore due to the kids coming along and they are not allowed in the pits which makes it hard as its a Family Sport ( work that out ). The Green car is one I am Restoring its from Sydney and Won the 1988 NSW Title before being Sold. I bought it in 2008 looking nothing like the photo. So a busy time saving for parts etc. Also have a Sprintcar which I just bought before Christmas to Restore with plenty of History if its the car just waiting on the original owner to confirm. So exctiting times for me with these cars. Myself and the wife have Orchids which we enjoy Cymbidium and Dendrobiums. And now with the daughter ( 9 ) starting Soccer its not leaving much time over the weekends and the son ( 4 ) wants to Race cars. So my Interests go from quiet time ( Orchids ) right up to plenty of noice ( Racecars ).

You must be well off to race cars.
I shudder to think how much money I spent in my young days doing it and I didn't have to pay for the car and running expenses
These days my birds fill in my spare time, but I do dream about going fishing!!!!

Not really E Orix. I raced as hard as I could. Never had any big damage bills so it was all good. I am only 42yrs old but the last 4 or so years my interest has turned to Historic racing cars. So I only buy what I can afford for the Green car then save again. Currently saving the last 2yrs for a trip up to QLD to have it to a Roller stage plus having the Bodywork recreated as in photo. Looking at 2016/17 for this. Hopefully mayb take in a few Forum visits while up. Area is Ipswich I think to have the car done. Spent plenty on Orchids also just for them to know and then die. Always forking $$$ out for something.

Apart from gardening, my other interests are more sedentary.
Science Fiction and bird stamps! I have heaps of other interests but those would be the next three, I suppose :)

My other interests were tropical fish breeding, not done now though i still breed gold fish and koi carp (i know,we are not allowed to keep them in Vic but Euro carp have taken over our waters so what the hell).I love getting out 4by driving and camping as well as clay target shooting. The last two have gone by the way side due to health issues so my birds are my saviour. Cheers Craig

I am also a kean reader of Science Fiction and Fantasy novels. And a Croquet player. No it is not an old persons sport. I'm under 60. It is a serious game of strategy that you can play from about 12yrs of age until you fall off your perch. (Provided the back holds out.) Think Billiards on grass. I also enjoy Quiz nights when the occassion arises.
