Mating Observations.

Noticed that the Orange Breasts I have seem to mate on the floor is this normal for these guys?

Yes i have seen this,it happens with a few of the smaller finches in a mixed collection,they must feel threatened so they go the floor to do the deed. Craig

Well checked my pairs of OBs and out of 4pairs that had eggs at the time total of 20 eggs with 2 that had hatched and another 17 that were fertile but I think last weeks hot days killed them in the egg and were rotten. So I am happy that 19 out of 20 were fertile. Another 3 nests with activity are 1 pair with 1 or 2 young and another 2 pair on eggs. So hopefully next round the weather has toned down a bit in heat.

G'day Mark,should you be checking their nests ? They might be deserting there nests due to interference. Craig
