Was pretty good overall, but as usual the hooklbills were the main. Bought seed, medication and four 4 gould hens. Should have been wary of the price...40 each in the lower box, said take all four. He pulled all four out in one handful? WTF? 2 black heads, fine, one red head fine, one orange head, are you kidding me, bung leg obviously an old bird. Should have taken the 60 dollar hens. And he is a dealer. Anyhow she is settling in. Saw some really nice gould hens 2014 35 each, nice and fresh but they were white breasted. Trying to stick to normals. Saw some javas, cheap as chips and didn't have any white under the chin. A few weavers and the little yellowy singer thingys. Mate bought a pair of longtails and chestnuts. Halfway home can hear the chestnut singing, in the carry cage. At least he knows he has a male! There wasn't a great deal of finches compared to,as I said the hookbills. What I did find unusual was there were no orange breasts. Few Saints and ruddies but must admit there was a pair of really well coloured Strawberrys with really well spotted sides.
Bought 25kgs of finch mix for 35 bucks. Mix looks ok at this stage, from Dubbo. Seller told me all local seeds so I asked "They should all sprout for me?" His reply, "Yes, no worries." We will see.
Must say the Orange Bird Society did very well, especially in regards to the parking, local bush fire brigade and SES as marshalls, just a real good community feeling.
One thing though, keep the smells of the worlds best BBQ away, cant concentrate when the tummy rumbles..
Ken.

Was there anything finch wise out of the usual? Were some of the rarer species well represented or not? I remember seeing Aberdeens there for $750 last year. Anything like that this year?
Sounds like it was a great sale

Interesting sale.
Went with only 26 birds, the sale started at 10am and my last birds sold at 10.05am.
It was strange having little to do and waiting for a friend to do a swap(he was late).
There was a dealer there with some reasonable birds but from a personal experience wouldn't go near him.
Another chap had a pair of Chaffinches but I didn't ask as he also had some Singers at $180 p.p which I thought was
too expensive. Red Faced P/Finches were reasonable at $60p.p Cordons $60 p.p
There was a good selection of medium value birds which should have pleased many.
Once again a good sale, very well run, friendly helpful organisers and our motel room has been booked
for next year already.

I thought I'd taken more pics. Anyway here's some... I didn't have time to catch birds this week so only took a few (which all sold). A mate took 70 birds (mainly Gouldians) and sold virtually all - so good turnover. Got my White Chat hen so very happy. Thanks Orange Bird Society members - your efforts are appreciated.

According to Tony F. there were in excess of 6000 birds benched and more than 1500 punters through the door. Not bad eh?

Looks great! Are those gouldians melanistic or dark factor? Anyone spot anything out of the norm?
