aberdeen infertility

A local breeder has advised that his 3 prs of Aberdeen's (Red headed) finches, >12 months old, have all laid 2 clutches each this year season. With such a good start to the season his birds have been unable to put a single chick on the perch, as all the eggs appear to be infertile. They are housed in small specialist aviaries with only one pair of birds per aviary. I have not seen the birds nor the aviary they are housed in.
Has anyone else had a similiar problem?

Did these birds breed for him last year, or are they new to his aviaries?
Did they breed at all last year, or are they first year birds?

I am watching with interest, as I am having similar issues.
Young birds, only pair in the small aviary, first two rounds clear.
Moved them to a large mixed aviary, even trimmed feathers from boths vent,
next two rounds also clear.

I think these birds were sold to him as 12 month old birds (fully coloured) and have not been bred from before.
