How long?

Just a general question for those that breed Goulds. I have bred over the past 5 or 6 years but have never really taken a lot of notice of noises. Last year was terrible, got just about zero as compared to the year before. This year kept my cock birds and acquired 5 first years black head yellow tipped beak hens. They have all nested,or so I think. Anyhow to cut a long story short noticed 3 days in a row 1 day hatchling per day on the floor, nothing in the crop, so tiny. Today went down and heard the first faint sounds of chicks. I do not enter the aviary unless it is really necessary. Am tempted to go in and have a look.

So the question is this.....how old would the chicks be when you hear them. The nests are only at the most 1.8m at the rear from the front but there are some closer to the front.

Ken.

Depends how loud?? I can hear them around 3 days and they get steadily louder as they get older...

Vettepilot-6,

Really faint, just audible, so I suppose 3 or for days would be par for the course. I know from experience that 1 and two day old are silent. Just open the gobs with no noise.

Thanks.

Ken.
