G'day all,
Come across this today while looking at something else. Here are two recommendations from the senate enquiry in Environmental Security as a result of some not so good track records by DAg.

Recommendation 19
7.86 The committee recommends that the Department of Agriculture review and, where appropriate, strengthen current regulations governing private aviculture imports, given the high rate at which privately kept birds escape into the wild.

Recommendation 20
7.87 The committee recommends that the Department of Agriculture identify the pathways by which exotic birds are entering the country, including illegal pathways, and work to better regulate or close these pathways.

Recommendation 21
7.88 The committee recommends that the Department of Agriculture work with relevant state and territory agencies to develop a national database of seized exotic wildlife.

Don't know that they will have much hope if two mongrel dogs can come into the country on a private jet .

We recommend they start checking out what comes off Private Jets, cause thats a bigger concern. The USA has all sorts of nasties we don;t. Bah Humbug to the Dept.

Pages 87, 88 and then 144 are of particular interest to us. Plenty of good fodder for a good old fashioned stoush

This is my favourite
So they'll be stopping all private aviculture imports - what?
And who's been letting out all these birds? It's hard to concentrate on the road with flocks of feral Hyacinth Macaws, Birds of Paradise and other distracting exotics flitting about.

The above is a bit of ancient history . . pp52-53 apply to us, and the 'recommendations' make for interesting reading . . thank goodness they were not implemented

What interested me particularly was Section 249(c) regarding Section 92 of the constitution





Don't expect too much help from our elected representatives

Their only purpose in life is to make sure that they are returned at the next election, and are swayed by 'public opinion' which is often anti the bird keeping minority

Rights and wrongs, along with facts seldom get in the way
