trying to get blue

Well folks this is my first attempt at getting blues.Not sure if its the best way to go.But may save a little grief.

any advise on best way in starting with blues.

it is best to start of with a split x a blues. or u can go for a split x split which is not as reliable. i breed split to split. i with 1 of me prs now they got 7 young 1 of them is blue but theres a chance of another 1 im not sure yet

hi gomer if your posible splits come from to true splits odds are 50%split blue 25% normal and the other 25% would be blue only way to know for sure is to trial breed
2 ways to do quickest and best way is to put them to a blue if you get a blue the pos split is true split and if all green/yellow birds at least their all true splits .
other way put them to true split and see if you get a blue trouble is you get more posible splits.
i started with 4 pair splits and 2 pair colour and split the splits did very well as blues breed are used to your conditions.
i would put your splits together for the rest of this breeding season
then you could put any blues breed to the posibles or buy in some blues
or splits to pair them with you could put posible to posible i did my 2nd season got some blues but you run out of room fast.
when buying blues reserch the seller and talk to people they have sold to ask them how they keep and breed their birds lots of people breed the bird in air con bird rooms etc have brought cheap birds from breeders like that and cost me birds didnt last long and didnt breed

So looks like you have 2 different blood lines of split blues ?

I would seperate the pair you got from Bendigo unless you know they are unrelated. I've never bred blues but have heard they can be weak so best to avoid the chance of inbreeding.

If all the young ones in first pic are split blue I would wait till they colour up then pair one with the OH male you have and another with the RH female.

You would at least get 1/4 blue offspring. Once you have both pairs going it gives you some more options in terms of pairings.

If you know the green pair are unrelated you could wait till they bred then pair there young with each of the young ones you have from morningside.

Good luck with it they look great.

What did you end up paying for them? I'd love to get my hands one some blues but no luck finding any yet in Brisbane :/

From whats happend to me in the past you can tell the split blues there the ones thay die.

moxidectin is a birdwormer. apparently works well on gizzard worms, air sac mites and roundworms.

The normal looking ones $250 the pr,split to blue.The yellow ones $35 each only possible split to blue.
If you know a farmer get cydectin of him.it is moxidectin.Next lot of wormer i get will be cydectin plus.As moxidectin (cydectin) does not do tape worm, but plus does.

I have been breeding gouldians for over 20 years & seeing as I am stubborn every few years I have decided to try blues again.While I have bred quite a few blues all I have ended up with is frustration & dead birds.I have tried all different combinations to breed these birds with some lasting 12 months but allways the end result the same.
But then again you never know fore sure until you try!
Just dont over commit your self or get to dissappointed.

About the moxidectin I get mine from The "Australian pigeon company"http://www.auspigeonco.com.au/ You can get straight moxidectin or moxidectin plus This is by far the best wormer.
