Finches & Moths

Hi all
I have seen some mention of feeding moths to birds in recent times. And I was curious to know if finches readily take them? and what are your opinions on them

If they are another good food for them, id consider setting up a moth trap and catching some. So would it be worth my while to do so?

Thanks
Nic

Hi Craig

I currently keep Painteds, stars, red brows, double bars, chestnuts, ruddies and RC cordons (and Gouldian but they only take greens usually).

Thanks for the response

Nic

Craig might say different but only 2 of those I have seen take moths on the fly are the Stars and RC Cordons...rest may but I've only seen those 2 species when breeding

I agree with FB and VP but only the smallest moths might be taken.I have night lights in the walkways to my aviaries and every morning there are small moths every where but i have never seen my crimsons take one but i have seen them search every nook and cranny looking for spiders that are attracted to the moths.
