Hi
I noticed that this Gouldian has a blueish tinge to its back feathers - can anyone tell me what type it is?

Many thanks

Emma

Loverly looking bird. Did you breed him? If so can you tell us what his parentage is?

This Gouldian finch is a sea green normal it also might be carry the blue gene in it which in turn might be seagreen split to blue ,but you have to try it back to a blue to see the out come but if nothing come from it then all the off spring are blue spilt to seagreen or it a normal seagreen Gouldian finch ,I hope this will help you.

Interesting colour and definitely some visual variant of a seageen.

The seagreens that I have seen here in WA lately have been darker.
Would like to know more about this bird like its parents and who the breeder was.

Good luck with him, he's a charm.

I don't believe that is seagreen,as you can see there are many colour variations in gouldians in the wild of which it ranges from seagreen to blue.If that bird is seagreen, the seagreen would effect the yellow belly turning it a creamy yellow.

Don't know what happened but my pic is huge and over pixelated :wtf: Craig

Hi

The parents were both red headed normals. This bird's two siblings were both red headed normals with no blue feathers on the back.

Thanks all for your thoughts.

Maybe it's carrying the thought to be long lost WA blue gene...?
Certainly displaying some turquoise colouring.

That turquoise colour does appear on normal phenotype birds with worn plumage as can be seen by many wild Goudlians towards the end of the breeeding season. I recently had a sick hen Gouldian which died develop strong blue colour for about a month before she died - prior to this she was a fine normal specimen for over 2 years.
