Seems like a lot of people are looking for Masked finches lately (myself included) - and they appear to be quite difficult to find, is this something we should be worried about? or is it just an 'off' year for Masks?

I would think it's their breeding season at the moment so try again later in the year. Craig

I have a few pair breeding at present. Unfortunately quite a few nests have failed - I suspect due to weather - in particular some pretty decent storm events and the recent cold snap.

That makes sense, it has been pretty intense lately.

IMO I have been keeping them for about 4 years now and I have hardly seen any around and most the birds I purchased I bought from people getting out of them completely. I'm talking ACT and NSW surrounds in particular.

They seem to fly under the radar, never see many at sales but the price for them also doesn't fluctuate. Definitely a bird worth keeping beautiful to watch them move around the aviary together calling out.
Mine are breeding and I had some success to begin with but lost a few young this year. I had some more fledge yesterday but not sure how many or how they are travelling now.
If anyone has/gets some and wants to swap or sell I'm keen on another 3 pairs just pm me
