I have been reading about the best tree to have in the brush and it's unanimous that Melaleuca incana is the best. Now I'm trying to find it. I can't have it for sale in the nurseries, so I have to collect them in the bush.

Does anyone know where to collect this tree in Brisbane or surroundings?

I agree stypheloides is far better finch nesting brush than incana. I have both growing in my garden & incana lacks density, is very weeping in habit and has very small soft leaves. Stypheloides is has a dense growth habit, has rigid leaves which hold very well once cut & makes excellent nesting sites for most finches which prefer to nest in vegetation.

Agree with Stypheloides which used to be common in nurseries many years ago but not so now

I have a number of tea tree/ grevillea types in my yard but the locals (spice, redbrow, chestnut) show a marked preference for Styph

Another advantage of growing your own is that you don't have to trim them . . your bird-mates do it for you
