Howdy
I've moving house on friday. Have two nests of babies in an aviary that I have to pull down that arent quite ready to leave the nest.
If I put the nest in a cage with the parents is there any chance they'll look after them or is it a lost cause?
species are silver bills and stars

Do you have any Zebs or Bengos you can put the young under? Would not suggest this in normal circumstances. But there are rare occassions like this when it may be the only way. Then as soon as they are weaned put in an avairy with their own kind and none of the foster kind.

They'd be more likely to feed them if they were on the floor of a breeding cabinet rather than left in the nest
If the young are only a day or two from fledging I'd give a fifty-fifty chance with the SB's . . bit less with the Stars
As VP says, you can only give it a go
The other alternative is hand-rearing . . baby finches are a lot tougher than you may think

thanks for the thoughts..
No zebs or bangos, even if I had them they'd be moving too (i'm moving house as well as aviaries)
I think I'll give them a shot on the bottom of the breeding cabinet and see what happens. Second nest of silverbills I've had, little buggers breed like rats

I suggested Zebs and Bengos because I have moved a group of 10 Zebs with 5 young and 3 made it. And Bengos are equally reliable.

both the star and silverbill babies are being fed and have survived since thursday so I think they're going to make it

Escapin.
This is a real good story. Hope all goes well, to me if stars get any interference it means game over. Hope it has a happy ending. If those stars rear them they are dead set keepers.

So glad to hear the transfer seems to be a success. Definately makes the parents keepers.
