Hi Everyone,

Researchers at Macquarie University (including Simon Griffith) are trying to recreate the recent history of the House Sparrow in Australia to develop a clear picture of where this urban species has been in the past, where it remains today, and the areas which have declined. The FSA is eager to foster links between aviculture and research. Simon and his Macquarie researchers continue to collaborate with the FSA on a variety of projects.

Many of you are involved in various other clubs and associations. We would appreciate if you can forward the survey link to as many people as you can. Participants need not be birders - most people are familiar with the sparrow, and the more people who respond, the better the data and hence the results will be.

Yes done,no shortage of house sparrows here. The tree sparrow is the one that is declining in my area. Craig

Done. No house sparrows where I live in The Sutherland Shire, NSW. The Noisy Miner has chased these and other small birds out of the area over the last 20 years.

Used to see them here, noisy miners have displaced them and most of the native birds in the inner west, even lucky to see Indian Mynas. The natives attack my aviary every day. They are the real pest. Would love to see those little plucky bastards again, especially the coloured cock bird. Raised many a sparrow chick with the yellow gape as a kid.

Like Brett said. Any that make the mistake of entering the biggest state are shot on sight.

Done, haven't seen one fir over twenty years in the blue mountains, don't see many miners either though.

Done they are a fairly recent arrival on the far south coast of N S W
