Sam
How old is the bird?
It has traits for both sexes.
If it is an older bird it could hen who's hormones have become in balanced.
Another picture could help
Edit
'I have just looked at the other shots and it is most likely a young cockbird.
They will show colour the following year. Young that fledge very early in the season may colour virtually 100%
but they are in the minority.

It's the one and only from early this year. Fledged 21st Feb to be precise - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJpdcNoUHXc I don't mind either way.
It had a red beak during much of the year. Pretty much identical to others. I thought it to be a hen as its beak turned dark but over the last month or two more black has appeared.

The odds have turned to a young cock bird.
Over the next month it will keep getting darker.
I think it is too late to get into advanced colour change this season.
Do you have any young Pintails flying as yet.
Their time is here.
